With the help of UCAP’s capital contribution and ongoing financial support, a new school dedicated to Ukrainian children in Budapest launched ahead of the 2023-2024 academic year. Operated by the House of Ukrainian Traditions, this institution offers a nurturing educational setting, delivering a well-rounded curriculum that respects and celebrates Ukrainian culture for young refugees. UCAP’s timely assistance played a crucial role in making this endeavor possible. The school has emerged as a cornerstone in providing stability and a strong sense of belonging for its students while cultivating a supportive community among students, educators, and families.
During the first year of operations, 130 children received education in their native Ukrainian language in Hungary. Despite the challenges of war and adjusting to a new environment, these children have shown remarkable resilience, making impressive strides in their studies and embracing the opportunity to advance their learning.
The 2023-2024 school year has successfully concluded, with all children receiving state-issued documents confirming completion. Notably, eight students received graduation certificates and will attend universities in Hungary, where they will study English and Hungarian.
Update: Thanks to UCAP’s early support, the Ukrainian-Hungarian Bilingual Secondary School and Gymnasium has earned state certification and will be officially registered by the Hungarian government. The school will welcome 600 Ukrainian students for the upcoming 2024-2025 academic year and begin operations as a bilingual institution in September 2024.
