LATEST UPDATES:
March 2025 – UCAP’s trauma course is being expanded and updated to serve Ukrainian educators better and align with current online learning standards. As part of this initiative, it will be hosted on the EdEra platform, a leading Ukrainian online education studio. This transition will enhance accessibility and engagement, allowing teachers across Ukraine to benefit from high-quality, interactive content.
The updated course will feature new formats, including speaker-led videos, expert interviews, and structured text-based lectures, enriching the learning experience. It will also incorporate key insights, real-world case studies, practical applications, and step-by-step strategies for trauma-informed teaching. By leveraging EdEra’s platform and network, we aim to maximize the course’s reach and impact, ensuring more educators have the tools and knowledge needed to support children affected by trauma in their classrooms. This relaunch builds upon the strong foundation of the original course, and we look forward to sharing further updates as progress is made.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
“The Impact of Trauma and How It Affects Behavior and Learning: What Teachers Should Know” is a web-based, interactive course developed by the Ukraine Children’s Action Project (UCAP) and the National Center for Disaster Preparedness of the Climate School, Columbia University. The course takes a “trauma-informed education” approach. The concept of “trauma-informed education” provides information and tools to address the needs of children who have been traumatized – and whose behavior will often impede the flow of the classroom and/or a student’s learning.

The course consists of four self-paced modules:
- Module 1: Introduction to Trauma.
- Module 2: What are the symptoms of a traumatized child?
- Module 3: How educators can support children who have experienced trauma.
- Module 4: What can be done in the classroom and school to incorporate trauma-informed practices and policies?
Working with the Ukrainian Ministry of Education and Science, our goal is to ensure that every teacher in Ukraine has access to this outstanding online course (translated and narrated in Ukrainian and Polish).
