Irwin and Karen Arrive in Lviv Two Days After a Massive Russian Attack

October 2025 — UCAP co-founders Karen and Irwin Redlener arrived in Lviv just two days after a massive Russian attack on multiple civilian targets across the Lviv Oblast, the largest strike in the region since the full-scale invasion began.
Dr. Redlener witnessed the devastation from the October 5 drone and missile assault, which struck residential neighborhoods and other civilian sites, resulting in significant casualties and widespread destruction.
The Redleners were in Lviv to mark the launch of UCAP’s newest initiative, the opening of six state-of-the-art pediatric operating rooms at the Lviv Regional Children’s Clinical Hospital, a major referral center serving children across western Ukraine.
During their visit, they also met with several of UCAP’s local partners, including Kids Club, an educational and community center UCAP established from the ground up to provide psychosocial and educational support for displaced children.
Irwin and Karen emphasized the extraordinary resilience of Ukrainian families and medical professionals, and reaffirmed UCAP’s commitment to supporting children affected by the war.
