Through a Mother’s Eyes: Nina

This family participated in a 6-day Recovery Camp designed to help children who face mental health challenges as a result of the war. The program provides children and their mothers with psycho-emotional rehabilitation by mental health professionals and recreational counselors. Children are engaged in play therapy, art therapy, music, games, and yoga. Over 1/3 of children who attend these camps are identified as having symptoms of PTSD and are referred to psychologists for follow-up services.

Everything has a beginning and an end! The beginning was full of anxiety; how will it be? And the end was filled with different emotions: joy, fulfillment, confidence, gratitude, etc.! I can say this about the time spent with the child in the camp. Thank you to the entire friendly team at Recovery Camp for the safe space they have created for children and mothers! Each day of the camp was filled with a different program that motivated children to engage in joint activities (everyone was tired of isolation from online learning). Individual activities – psychologists and animators – tried to create conditions where children could show their personal qualities and develop creative abilities. And mothers?! Mothers found time for themselves: some simply had a cup of coffee, some gave themselves permission to be alone with themselves, some went to individual or group classes with a psychologist, swam in the pool or spent time at a Pilates class, made new acquaintances, etc. I was happy to look at the children on the day of departure: they are just living creatures who got a lot of positive emotions, made new friends, and just felt like children in this difficult time! Thank you for the invitation to the camp! Peaceful sky and health to all!” – Nina, Donetsk, Ukraine
